NPTC students attend HOSA conference

Eight National Park Technology Center Health Science Technology Education students attended the 39th annual Health Occupation Students of America International Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tenn., June 22-26.

Students qualified for the conference by competing and winning their event at the state conference in March. Approximately 10,500 students attended the national conference.

HOSA affiliations are found in all 50 states plus Puerto Rico, Mexico, American Samoa, Canada and the District of Columbia. Students were accompanied by Susan Kelly and Relda Steelman, HOSA advisor and HSTE instructor.

"While they didn't receive any top three placements this year, all of the students worked extremely hard and represented NPTC, their local schools and the state of Arkansas very well," Steelman said.

Hot Springs High School students to compete were Tristin Finney, HOSA Bowl; Cecilia Lopez, alternate; Sarai Sharif, Epidemiology; and Tristan Trejo, alternate.

"This was so much fun, an awesome experience," Lopez said. "I can't wait until next year."

Lakeside High School students Clayton Threadgill, Payton Toland and Macy Wolf competed in the HOSA Bowl.

Lake Hamilton High School student Jacob Stoker competed in Medical Assisting.

"I'm going to start preparing now so that I can go back next year," Stoker said.
