Oaklawn's marketing team brings home nine awards

Oaklawn Racing and Gaming's marketing department received nine Romero Awards during the closing ceremonies of the Gaming Marketing & Technology Conference in Las Vegas, bringing its total to 52 awards, which also includes honorable mentions, over the last seven years. Oaklawn was competing in the large gaming property category for just the second time as a result of its 2015 expansion, which increased the competition exponentially.

Oaklawn received The Diamond Award, the highest award given, for the Lucky Numbers online marketing promotion that centered around a record-setting Powerball last February and was executed primarily through social media. It won a Silver Romero award for its Scary-Oke online marketing promotion. Oaklawn also received seven honorable mentions.

"It's such an honor to be recognized by leading gaming experts for our hard work at Oaklawn," said Assistant Director of Marketing Brandon Scott, who was selected to be a panelist on the Romero Awards Roundtable at this year's conference, in the press release. "We were competing against casinos from around the world, from New Zealand to South Africa to Las Vegas, so this is not only a win for Oaklawn, but also for Hot Springs and Arkansas. These awards belong to the entire team at Oaklawn. Without everyone's hard work, none of this is possible."

Romero Awards honor excellence in gaming marketing and are named for gaming marketing pioneer John Romero, who died last year. These awards, in the categories of Direct Mail Marketing, Email Marketing, PR Campaign, Website Marketing, VIP Promotion and Gaming Floor Promotion, recognize gaming operators that best fulfill the spirit of Romero's more than 50-year crusade for effective, measurable and accountable gaming marketing expenditures. The winners are selected by a panel of expert judges.

Earlier this month, Oaklawn was voted the No. 1 Southern Casino in the 2016 Groups Today Readers' Choice Awards for the second straight year.
