Beverly Dallas was recently voted as Village Art Club's July Artist of the Month. Her acrylic piece was painted on sheet music of the song "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes." She created it for her son, who is a captain with the fire department in Oklahoma City. It shows both his station number and name, Brent Dallas, and the fire extinguisher was painted from one she owns. In a news release, the artist said, "Since my husband, David, and my other son, Scott, are retired Oklahoma City firemen, it was a labor of love for all of my firemen." Dallas has been painting off and on for some 20 years. Early on, she painted in oils but, since moving to the Village in December 2014, she paints mostly in acrylics, and has learned to love colored pencil. Her painting will be on display through the middle of August in the Coronado Community Center lobby, 150 Ponderosa Lane.
