A liberal bias?

Dear editor:

Moving on to another conservative/liberal ongoing problem.

I try to read The Sentinel-Record each day so as to keep abreast of the news about the city of Hot Springs and also Garland County. In addition, I read daily the letters to the editor and also the syndicated columnist on the Viewpoints page.

Over time, I sensed that the Viewpoint's page columnists had a considerable liberal bias, since essentially all the columnists in The Sentinel-Record wrote for the very liberal Washington Post Writers Group. In an attempt to be accurate and objective, rather than subjective, I have kept a record of all printed opinion pieces from June 17 through July 17, 2016.

During this period, there were a total of 44 opinion pieces from Washington Post writers. The liberal writer's columns included (10) Eugene Robinson, (9) Michael Gerson, (7) Kathleen Parker, (2) Susan Estrich and (4) Ruben Navarette. By comparison, the conservative writers were (4) Charles Krauthhammer, (2) Byron York and (6) George Will (remarkably, most of these conservative columns attacked Donald Trump in some fashion rather than expressing general conservative viewpoints).

The ratio of liberal to conservative was 32:12, almost 3:1.

To be fair, I don't know if this liberal bias is intentional or inadvertent. But, I do know it exists and is real, and it is inappropriate and wrong and needs to be corrected.

The Sentinel-Record should be "fair and balanced" on its Viewpoint page, especially since Garland County voters are majorly "Red" Republicans and politically conservative based on their choices of elected officials. It should be the newspaper for all Garland County residents.

Any continued liberal bias (as I've just proven) might contribute to further declining subscription rates and declining readership. Please correct this problem. It's the right and honorable thing to do.
