A Hot Springs man was charged with battery Monday night after he allegedly punched his girlfriend and pulled out her hair extensions.

Thomas Ross Cornett, 24, who lists a Spring Street address, was taken into custody shortly after 7:30 p.m. and was charged with third-degree domestic battery, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail.

Cornett, who also had a warrant for failure to appear, remained in custody Tuesday in lieu of zero bond and is set to appear Aug. 9 in Garland County District Court.

According to the affidavit, the girlfriend said they got into a fight while Cornett was holding their 1-year-old son. He allegedly punched her on both sides of her head causing her glasses to fall off. She tried to put distance between them, but he grabbed her hair and pulled her extensions from her head.

A Hot Springs police officer saw that she had trauma to her right eye and noted her hair extensions were on the living room floor.

A short time later, the officer was notified that Cornett had returned to the residence, but upon arrival, he had fled the scene again. The girlfriend gave a description of Cornett, and he was located in the 400 block of Convention Boulevard.

He allegedly admitted he had been in a fight with the girlfriend and that he punched her in the face and pulled out her hair extensions.
