Civic clubs

Items include clothing for women, men and children, and household goods. Donations are welcome.

United Methodist Thrift Store, 304 Albert Pike, is open from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday and Saturday. The store stocks men's, women's and children's clothing and accessories, household items, fabric and books (in good condition). Clean, usable donations of clothes, housewares and small furniture are appreciated. Proceeds are used to assist needy families in Garland County.

Stop Animal Cruelty Thrift Store, 123 Albert Pike, is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. All proceeds benefit the rescued pets in foster care. SAC is an all-volunteer organization striving to promote humane principles, prevent cruelty and alleviate fear, pain and suffering in animals. It investigates reports of cruelty and neglect in Hot Spring and Garland counties. Donations of kitchen items, home decor, clothing, shoes, bedding, linens, collectibles and furniture in good condition are appreciated. Donations of dog and cat food or miscellaneous pet supplies may be left at the store. All donations are tax deductible. Low-cost spay and neuter vouchers are available to the public. Poetry Night will be held from 6-9 p.m. today at Kollective Coffee Plus Tea, 110 Central Ave. No cover charge. The public is welcome. The featured poet takes stage at 7 p.m., with open mic readings before and after.

Hot Springs Carousel Readers' Theater entertains audiences with performances emphasizing humor and enthusiasm. The group is unique in that actors remain behind music stands, acting out characters using facial expressions, voice and gestures. There is limited memorization since actors have scripts in front of them. People of all ages interested in theatrical study and performance are welcome to attend meetings from 10:30 a.m. to noon Fridays at Garland County Library. Cast members have appeared at Gallery Walk, civic clubs, churches and school groups, assisted living and nursing facilities, and other celebrations of the arts. Appearances are free, however, donations are welcome to cover expenses. Members are interested in appearing for fundraising events.
