Young Optometrist of the Year recognized by Arkansas Optometric Association

LITTLE ROCK -- Dr. Melia Robertson received the Young Optometrist of the Year Award for 2016 from the Arkansas Optometric Association.

The Young Optometrist of the Year award is given to a young optometrist who has been in practice a minimum of four years and is a person who shows promise and interest in ArOA leadership by volunteering her service to committees and special projects and showing an exceptional zeal.

Robertson began her involvement with the Arkansas Optometric Association in Optometry School. She served as an Arkansas Student Club president and volunteered at the Arkansas Optometric Association annual conventions.

Robertson has exemplified dedication to her profession and her association since before graduating from optometry school. Since graduation from Southern College of Optometry in 2010, she has served as exhibit chair, silent auction co-chair, as student liaison on the Career Guidance, Convention and Nominating committees, and she now serves on the Association Board of Directors while still holding some of the aforementioned positions. She continues to demonstrate her creativity and initiative with every task she encounters. Upon graduation, Robertson opened Robertson Eye Center in Russellville. In addition to her responsibilities with the association, Robertson volunteers at River Valley Christian Clinic and supports her local Lions Club Adult Vision Screening Mobile Unit. She is a Sunday school teacher and volunteer nursery worker at Victory Missionary Baptist Church.

Robertson and her husband, Justin, have two children, Emmarie and Evan. She is the daughter of Teresa Way, of Hot Springs, and Mike Cook, of Magnet Cove.

The Arkansas Optometric Association represents Arkansas optometrists, who provide primary eye care services. Improving the quality of eye care and vision health and increasing its availability to all Arkansans are primary objectives of the association. In addition, the association makes a concerted effort to educate consumers on how to take care of their eyes and maintain good eye health and vision.

The Arkansas Optometric Association is an affiliate of the American Optometric Association. The vision of ArOA is to be the trusted resource in eye health and vision care. The mission is to preserve, promote and advance Optometry in Arkansas.
