CHICAGO -- Brett Lawrie broke a fifth-inning tie with a three-run homer, Todd Frazier added his 14th of the season and the Chicago White Sox held on for a 7-6 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Monday in the opener of a doubleheader.
Austin Jackson added three hits and two RBIs, Mat Latos (6-1) allowed three runs over six innings and David Robertson pitched a hitless ninth for his 12th save in Chicago's second consecutive win.
Marlon Byrd's two-run homer in the fifth off Latos tied it at 3 a half-inning before Lawrie sent Mike Clevinger's fastball into the left-field seats.
Clevinger (0-1) gave up seven hits over five innings in his second big league start.
Mike Napoli had a solo homer and an RBI groundout, and Jose Ramirez's two-run homer in the eighth off Matt Albers got the Indians within a run before they dropped their third straight.
Pirates 6, Rockies 3
PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Pirates starter Ryan Vogelsong was carted off the field after getting struck in the head by a pitch in the second inning of a 6-3 win over the Colorado Rockies on Monday.
With the bases loaded and Pittsburgh leading 1-0, Rockies starter Jordan Lyles (1-2) hit Vogelsong in the left cheek with a 92 mph fastball. Vogelson was making his second start of the season, filling in because of a rainout Sunday.
The Pirates later said he was admitted to the hospital for injuries to his left eye. Vogelsong was replaced by Wilfredo Boscan (1-0), who got the win in relief.
The Pirates took an early lead on Lyles and never looked back. Besides hitting Vogelsong, the right-hander walked three, allowed two stolen bases, threw a wild pitch and gave up six runs over 2 1/3 innings.
Dodgers 9, Padres 5 (17)
SAN DIEGO -- Yasiel Puig hit a tiebreaking, two-run single with the bases loaded and one out in the 17th inning and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres 9-5 on Sunday to snap a four-game losing streak.
The game started in afternoon sunshine and ended at dusk, taking 5 hours, 47 minutes.
The Dodgers started the four-run rally off rookie Luis Perdomo when Howie Kendrick hit a leadoff double that bounced over the wall in right-center field. Adrian Gonzalez was intentionally walked and reliever Ross Stripling advanced them with a groundout. Joc Pederson was intentionally walked to load the bases, and then Puig singled up the middle. Pederson scored on a wild pitch and Carl Crawford hit an RBI grounder.
Stripling (2-3) pitched three innings for the win. Perdomo (1-1) was the hard-luck loser after pitching five innings.
Giants 1, Cubs 0
SAN FRANCISCO -- Madison Bumgarner pitched 7 2/3 dominant innings and doubled in a run in the fifth to lift the San Francisco Giants over the Chicago Cubs 1-0 on Sunday night.
The Giants won for the 11th time in 12 games and took two of three from a Cubs team with the best record in baseball.
Bumgarner (6-2) struck out six and allowed three hits and two walks while winning his fifth straight decision. The Giants have won each of the left-hander's last six starts.
The Giants won despite a persistent problem hitting with runners in scoring position. They were 0 for 7 in that department and have 16 hits in their last 98 at-bats with runners in scoring position.
Bumgarner's run-scoring double to left off Kyle Hendricks (2-4) followed Gregor Blanco's leadoff walk.
Giants closer Santiago Casilla pitched a scoreless ninth for his 12th save.
