Oaklawn Racing & Gaming names controller

Scott Frederick, of Fort Smith, has been named controller for Oaklawn Racing & Gaming.

Frederick brings more than 20 years of experience in accounting and financial services to Oaklawn. He spent nearly 13 years at one of Arkansas' largest publicly traded companies -- ABF Freight and its parent company, ArcBest Corp. -- where he worked his way up the ranks from a financial reporting accountant to assistant controller. He later worked for New Prospect Co., a privately held oil and gas consulting company, for close to seven years. After a year as the controller with New Prospect, he was promoted to senior vice president of finance and treasurer.

Frederick, a native of Subiaco, earned his Bachelor's in Accounting at Arkansas Tech University and began his career with Beall Barclay & Co. He was most recently CFO/COO for Read Chair Publishing in Fort Smith, which publishes the monthly regional lifestyle magazine Do South Magazine. He has recently worked as an outsourced controller/CFO for multiple local businesses in Fort Smith.

"Scott brings a wealth of accounting experience to our team," General Manager Eric Jackson said in the release. "As a native Arkansan, he understands Oaklawn's rich tradition in the state and comes in with a lot of enthusiasm for learning our business."

Frederick is a certified public accountant and certified treasury professional. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Arkansas State Society of CPAs and the Association for Financial Professionals. Oaklawn has been one of the premiere thoroughbred racetracks in the country for more than 112 years, best known as home of the $1 million Arkansas Derby. It is among the largest employers in Hot Springs, with approximately 700 year-round team members and 1,600 seasonal workers.
