Lady Wolves seeded fifth, play in 6A tourney opener

PEARCY -- Paige Hoover led with 17 digs and 22 assists as Lake Hamilton defeated Sheridan Thursday night for 6A-West's No. 5 seed in next week's Class 6A volleyball tournament at Wolf Arena.

Jenny Peake added 15 kills and two aces while Courtney Erby recorded 10 kills for the Lady Wolves. Scores were 25-20, 19-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-11.

Lake Hamilton plays West Memphis, No. 4 seed from 6A-East, in the tournament's opening match at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The winner faces West champion Greenwood in the quarterfinals at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Russellville is seeded No.2 from the West and faces the Mountain Home-Sheridan winner at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Searcy and Jacksonville have qualified from the East for first-round matches Tuesday at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.

Semifinals are Thursday with the championship match at 3 p.m. Oct. 29 at Bank of the Ozarks Arena.

Conway Blue-LHJH

PEARCY -- After a second-quarter safety, Lake Hamilton added a fourth-quarter touchdown and downed Conway Blue 8-0 Thursday night at Wolf Stadium.

Zach Bradley passed 19 yards to Braden Braughton for a score with 3:42 left. The extra-point attempt failed, but the Wolves held on behind a strong defensive performance, forcing three turnovers and allowing 63 yards.

Lake Hamilton led 2-0 after a bad snap on a Conway punt and the ball went through the end zone for a safety.

Braughton had five carries for 65 yards, the touchdown reception and three tackles. Dealond Lewis carried 14 times for 48 yards.

Braden Qualls had eight tackles for the Wolf defense, Joey Kilzer's two second-half interceptions sealing the win. Lake Hamilton improved to 3-5 with Little Rock Catholic at home next week.

Lake Hamilton's eighth-grade team won 16-6, Westyn Dobyns running for one touchdown and J.T. Bardwell passing to Layne Warrick for another. The eighth-grade Wolves are 4-4..

Jessieville-Horatio

JESSIEVILLE -- Austin Carl ran for 193 yards and Jessieville held Horatio to 70 yards in a 24-6 win Thursday night at Phillips Field.

Carl's 18 carries included touchdown runs of 23 and 78 yards in the first quarter. B.J. Holloway ran eight yards for a fourth-quarter Jessieville touchdown, helping the Lions improve to 7-1 overall and 5-1 in Class 3A-5.

Wyatt Marshall scored a second-quarter touchdown for Horatio, which hosted Jessieville in a varsity game Friday night.

Fountain Lake alumni

to honor grid program

Fountain Lake Alumni Association will recognize the 40th anniversary of Cobra varsity football Oct. 28 before a home game against Mena.

Former players will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the school weight room and go on the field for introductions at 6:35 p.m.
