Reddies plan homecoming activities

ARKADELPHIA -- Henderson State University will celebrate homecoming with a variety of events beginning Wednesday and culminating with the football game against Oklahoma Baptist University on Saturday.

A highlight of homecoming week will be the Distinguished Alumni Banquet honoring professional golfer Ken Duke and recently-retired Henderson vice president Bobby Jones.

The banquet will start at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 28 in the Martin B. Garrison Activity and Conference Center Grand Ballroom. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by calling 870-230-5401 or emailing [email protected].

Henderson announced on Friday the 26 students who have been nominated for the homecoming court. The 10 finalists will be announced Oct. 27 during the annual homecoming pep rally. The court will be introduced and the queen crowned during pre-game festivities before the football game on Saturday.

The 2016 homecoming queen candidates are Johanna Baker, junior, Mathematics major from Magnolia; Caylin Carson, senior, Biology/Pre-Pharmacy, from Benton; Kaylah Charles, junior, Elementary Education, from Little Rock; McKenzie Crosby, junior, Fashion Merchandising, from Sheridan; Elizabeth Denny, senior, Family and Consumer Science Education, from White Hall; Tamiah Epps, sophomore, Innovative Media, from Texarkana; Julie French, junior, Political Science, from Arkadelphia; Kaitlynn Garrett, junior, English, from Benton; April Gaston, senior, Marketing, from Sparkman; Kaylee Graham, senior, Accounting, from Smackover; Colby Hartley, sophomore, Aviation, from Lonoke; Brandi Hughes, junior, Human Services, from North Little Rock; Devan Jester, senior, Psychology, from Gurdon; Carolyn "Josie" Kelley, junior, Biochemistry, from Monticello; Madison McCaslin, senior, Psychology, from Jackson, Tenn.; Stephanie Montoya, senior, Elementary Education, from Hope; Meghan Morphis, senior, Sociology, from Lake Village; Zhaiven Nelson, freshman, Health Sscience, from Arkadelphia; Cynthia Perez, freshman, Political Science, from Cabot; KeAmbra Roberts, senior, Marketing, from Hooks, Texas; Shae Rogers, senior, Marketing, from Foreman; Lynlee Russell, senior, Biology, from Texarkana; Mylee Scott, junior, Marketing, from Arkadelphia; Zania Stewart, senior, Athletic Training, from North Little Rock; Sidney Tyson, senior, Nursing, from Anderson, Mo.; and Emily Wetzlar, junior, Elementary education, from Harare, Zimbabwe.

Wednesday's events include homecoming court top 10 voting and a softball home run derby at 7 p.m. on Dee White Field. Top 10 voting will continue on Thursday, which will also feature the presentation of homecoming queen candidates at 7 p.m. at Arkansas Hall, the top 10 announcement and pep rally on Barkman House lawn after the candidate presentation, Blue and White Fellowship at 7:30 p.m. at Western Sizzlin and the homecoming drumbeat at 8 p.m. until kickoff on Saturday.

Homecoming events on Friday include voting for queen, H Club Homecoming 4-person Golf Scramble at 11 a.m. on DeGray Lake Resort Golf Course, Alpha Kappa Alpha Meet and Greet from 5-10 p.m. in the Garrison Center Ross Room and the Homecoming Party from 9:30 p.m. at Caddo Valley Event Center for $5 admission.

Saturday's events start at 7 a.m. with Kappa Alpha Psi tailgating on the Wells front lawn, 8 a.m. Blue and White Breakfast at Baptist Collegiate Ministries, Alpha Phi Alpha Alumni Breakfast from 8:30-10:30 a.m. in the Ross Room, Alpha Xi Delta Breakfast at 9 a.m. in the Garrison Center Galloway Room and tailgating at 11 a.m. by Wells Gym, pregame homecoming tailgate at the Duke Wells Complex, Heart and Key Alumni Reception from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in the Garrison Center Cabe Room, Golden Reddie Brunch, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Garrison Center Banquet Room, homecoming pregame activities at noon at Carpenter-Haygood Stadium and the Alpha Xi Delta Balloon Release at 1:50 p.m.

The football game will kick off at 2 p.m.

The Greek Step Show will be held in Wells Gym at 8 p.m. The Homecoming Party will be held at 9:30 p.m. in the Caddo Valley Event Center for $10 admission. The final event, Angelic Voices of Christ, will be held at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
