One dead, one injured following shootings

Two separate, apparently unrelated shootings that occurred hours apart on Monday left a local man dead and another hospitalized, according to information released by Hot Springs police on Tuesday.

In the first shooting, police responded to National Park Medical Center at around 4 a.m. Monday where Kendall Davaughn Baugh, 23, of Hot Springs, was transported by private vehicle for treatment, according to a news release on Monday.

The release noted Baugh was in critical condition Monday with life-threatening injuries. Baugh died Monday evening from his injuries, according to a follow-up release. No additional information was released by police on Tuesday.

In the second incident, a police officer who responded to 508 Second St. in reference to a shooting at around 5 p.m. Monday made contact with a 20-year-old male who had a gunshot wound above his right knee.

The victim, who was not identified, was transported by LifeNet to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs.

At the hospital, the victim told police he was on Second Street when he observed his friend "D" driving by and he tried to wave him down. He said "D" did not see him and continued driving down the street while the victim tried to call out to him.

The victim said he then heard a loud "pop" and noticed he had been shot in the leg. He said he did not see anyone in the area at the time of the incident.

Police asked anyone with information concerning either investigation to call the department at 501-321-6789.
