ARKADELPHIA -- Ouachita Baptist University's Wind Ensemble will present its fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1 in Jones Performing Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.

The ensemble is composed of 43 students and directed by Craig Hamilton, Ouachita's Lena Goodwin Trimble Professor of Music and director of bands.

"We have programmed a wide variety of music," Hamilton said in a news release. "I am very proud of our students' performance of each of the selections and know the audience will enjoy the concert."

The program will begin with Andrew Boysen Jr.'s "Alchemy." The second selection is Percy Aldridge Grainger's "Lincolnshire Posy," a six-movement piece based on folk songs that has become the cornerstone of the band's repertoire. "A Childhood Remembered" by Rossano Galante, "Pageant" by Vincent Persichetti and Carl Strommen's "Chroma" will follow.

Next is a musical tribute to the late Sir Malcolm Arnold, "Along an English Countryside" by Richard L. Saucedo. The concert concludes with "Chorale and Shaker Dance" by John Zdechlik, including an opening chorale and variations on the Shaker tune "Simple Gifts."

"This year's concert stands out because of the variety of music that we're playing. The pieces range from the early 1900s to recent years," said Sarah Coles, a junior accounting and finance double major from Van Buren. "This year's program is also made up of several different genres and styles of music."

The concert will be available live online at http://www.obu.edu/band.
