Hot Springs World Class High School and Hot Springs Middle School welcomed Paul Vitale for motivational programs on Thursday.

Vitale is an author and international motivational speaker with clients including the National Football League, Wal-Mart Stores, ESPN, Southwest Airlines, Baptist Health, Tyson Foods and more. He is a native of Russellville and a graduate of the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.

The 90 minute programs presented at each school were designed to be engaging to involve the students.

"First and foremost, right now, you are making a big decision right this moment," Vitale said. "That decision is, 'Am I going to listen to this guy or not?' I know I have a very short time to grab your attention."

Vitale was introduced at the middle school Thursday by Kelley Deardorff, director of alternative learning environment/career initiatives. Deardorff explained the emphasis Vitale places on aspects such as personal growth, optimism and work ethic.

"However, if you'd rather not listen to me, you can tune me out at any time," Vitale said. "I won't take it personally. I'm just going to do my best to work as hard as I can with you or without you. That's the reality."

The son of a retired teacher, Vitale said he wanted to recognize the efforts of the teachers.

"I also want to say thank you very much for what you do," Vitale said. "As the son of an educator, what you do matters and there's great sacrifice."

Vitale said students should focus on what they want to accomplish.

"There's a lot going on in the world of students," Vitale said. "What I want to offer you today are some ideas."

Vitale offered "five simple ideas" for students to consider. He encouraged students to dare to dream courageously, establish a course of action, empower others to imagine, unite a common bond and be resilient like none other.

The ideas are part of a program Vitale developed, titled "A Hero Within: Today's Youth, Tomorrow's Leaders." Vitale spreads the message of the program through many speaking events, but he also offers other resources and services, such as a curriculum kit.
