Garland County Library October schedule of events

The Garland County Library, 1427 Malvern Ave., has released the following schedule of events for the month of October:

• Oct. 1 -- Halloween Costume Closet opens. Free Halloween costume check outs to babies through teens up to age 18 with a library card on a first-come, first-served basis until all costumes are gone.

• Oct. 2 -- Fall Pinterest Party. Adults ages 18 and older can make three fall-themed crafts. The event is free and supplies are provided. Registration required.

• Oct. 3-28 -- Spooky Story Contest. Two divisions: children ages 12 and younger and teens ages 11-18. Submit a spooky story to win prizes. See the event calendar at http://www.gclibrary.com for more details.

• Oct. 6 -- Family Movie Night: "The Haunted Mansion." Rated PG. Movie begins at 5 p.m. and all ages are welcome.

• Oct. 8 -- Local and Indie Author Day, 1-4 p.m. Local authors may set up a table and sell copies of their books and visit with the community. Authors can sign up for a table by contacting Greg Wallace at [email protected] or 623-4161.

• Oct. 11 -- Haunted Library Tour for ages 10 and younger at 6 and 6:30 p.m.

• Oct. 12 -- Free Hot Springs Jazz Society Concert: Bourbon Street Parade, 6 p.m. Seating is first-come, first-served.

• Oct. 14 -- Music Class Series with Dr. Leisenring, Fridays at 2 p.m. A different musical decade will be discussed each week. Visit the online calendar for more information.

• Oct. 15 -- Job Fair, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. More than 25 local businesses looking for help will be at the library's job fair. Guests should bring their resume and dress for success.

• Oct. 20 -- The Monster Ball, Teen Halloween Party, 5-6:30 p.m. Guests ages 12-18 can enjoy pizza, candy, games, costumes and more.

• Oct. 22 -- Teen Book Club: "Love & Gelato," 2 p.m., featuring a live Skype session with the author.

• Oct. 23 -- Guilty Pleasures Book Club: "Amityville Horror," followed by a movie presentation of the 1979 version of "Amityville Horror." Rated R. Ages 18 and older.

• Oct. 27 -- Kid's Halloween Party, 5:30-7 p.m. Ages 12 and younger.
