Glen Barentine and Gary Troutman, Hot Springs Metro Partnership board members, and Zac Blann, Image & Growth manager, recently completed the Mid-South Basic Economic Development Course at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. They joined 24 other participants from three different states in the four-day program. Offered annually in the spring, the Mid-South Basic Course provides an intensive overview of the process and practice of local economic development. It features more than 20 instructors who are recognized experts in their fields. It is one of 22 such courses accredited by the International Economic Development Council.

According to Ron Swager, course director, "Glen, Gary and Zac were outstanding participants who contributed to the success of this year's course. They show great potential as players in the economic development process." By completing the course, they are better prepared to assist efforts to foster community and economic development. They are also qualified to attend a series of advanced training courses, ultimately leading to the eligibility for designation as a Certified Economic Developer.

The Hot Springs Metro Partnership is the area's public-private economic development organization, serving all of Garland County.
