A previously convicted felon was arrested early Wednesday after he was allegedly found behind the wheel of a stolen car and in possession of a firearm.

Zachary Remington Dixon, 21, who lists an Elkhorn Loop address, was taken into custody around 2:15 a.m. and charged with felony counts of theft by receiving and possession of a firearm by certain persons, each punishable by up to six years in prison.

Dixon was being held on $6,000 bond but also had a parole hold on him and is set to appear this week in Garland County District Court.

According to the affidavit, Hot Springs police Cpl. Allen Constant was patrolling westbound in the 1800 block of Hobson Avenue when he spotted Dixon, whom he knew to have a warrant for failure to appear, sitting in a 2000 Nissan Altima parked in a driveway.

He ran a check on the vehicle and it was determined to have been reported stolen out of the city. After making contact with Dixon, he also located a 12-gauge shotgun in the vehicle.

After determining Dixon was a previously convicted felon, with his most recent conviction in March 2016 on a felony drug charge, Constant also charged him for having the firearm. It was also determined an absconder warrant had been issued for Dixon from the Arkansas Department of Correction.
