With all the parties, food and gifts during the holidays, 25 percent more garbage is produced during the Thanksgiving to New Year's holiday period than any other time of the year. The extra waste amounts to 25 million tons of garbage. To help reduce this volume, simply place the accepted commodities out for recycling to help reduce, reuse and recycle, and balance waste and trash.
Corrugated cardboard, plastic Nos. 1 and 2, aluminum cans and newsprint from your new appliance boxes or gifts is easily recycled through our Earth Angel curbside collection program.
If you are replacing old and nonworking electronics this holiday season, please remember that the city of Hot Springs Recycling Center, 218 Runyon St., will gladly accept them to be recycled for free from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
For more information about the recycling program, call the Solid Waste Department, 501-321-6911.
