Seals have strong showing at meet

Three local student swimmers recently won first place in the Paul Blair Memorial Thanksgiving Invitational Swim Meet in Little Rock.

Aubrey Schmitt, Audrey Simons and Emma Crowe were among the top swimmers from the Hot Springs YMCA Seals swim team.

Schmitt received the high-point award for the 8-and-under division at the meet, winning the 25-meter freestyle and 25-meter breaststroke events. She also finished third in the 25-meter backstroke and fourth in the 25-meter butterfly.

Simons took first place in the 8-and-under division in the 25-meter butterfly and finished seventh in the 25-meter freestyle and 25-meter breaststroke.

Crowe led the 11-12 year olds with a win in the 100-meter backstroke. She also took second in the 50- and 100-meter breaststroke, 50-meter butterfly and the 50-meter backstroke. She also placed in the 100-meter freestyle and 200-meter individual medley and fifth place in the 200-meter freestyle.

Crowe was also part of the 200-meter freestyle relay team and the 200-meter medley relay team, leading them to a third-place finish in the freestyle and sixth in the medley. Joining Crowe on the freestyle relay team were Claire Hudnell, Elizabeth Chipps and Amanda Navarro. Hudnell, Simons and Schmitt joined Crowe on the medley relay team.

Lily Cook finished eighth in the 8-and-under division in the 25-meter breaststroke. Sawyer Simpson took fourth in the 11-12 year old boys division in the 50-meter breaststroke and Nicole Burek took eighth in the 15-18 year old division in the 200-meter breaststroke.
