CMS girls in consolation game

MAGNET COVE -- Cutter Morning Star is set for the third-place game today in the Magnet Cove senior basketball tournament after a 57-23 win over Arkansas Christian Academy on Thursday.

The Lady Eagles (3-4) controlled the game from the start and ended the first quarter with a 19-2 advantage. They took a 36-8 lead into halftime and their lead grew to 53-16 after three quarters.

Senior Madison Dixon paced the team with 15 points and sophomore Kara Kinkaid scored 14. Junior Cherokee Fields scored 11 points and sophomore Grace Slick added eight.

The third-place game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. against Rison.

Lake Hamilton boys

BRANSON, MO. -- A day after losing in the first round of the Battle on the Border, Lake Hamilton rolled to a 73-31 win over Union, Mo.

The Wolves dominated the opening quarter, giving up only two points while cruising to a 26-2 lead. Union bounced back in the second to put up 15 points, but Lake Hamilton rolled to a 44-17 halftime buffer.

Lake Hamilton held the Wildcats to four in the third frame while adding 17 to hold a 40-point lead going into the final period.

Lane Kersey paced the Wolves with 13 points. Mondo Watkins added 11 with six assists and five steals, Malique Hill put up 10 and Adjani Winston had 7. Sabby Vinson also had five assists.

* Lake Hamilton struggled in the second quarter, leading to a 42-36 loss to Bolivar, Mo., Thursday.

Trailing by seven at the start of the final period, the Wolves were able to cut their deficit to one, but they were unable to regain the lead they held early in the game.

Lake Hamilton (5-2) took a 9-8 lead in the opening quarter, but the Liberators dominated the second to take a 24-16 lead into the break.

The Wolves held Bolivar to five in the third quarter, but they were able to add only six for a 29-22 deficit going into the final frame.

Mondo Watkins paced the Wolves with 16 points, Lane Kersey added eight and Kanaan Williams seven.

The Wolves will face host Branson today at 4:30 p.m. in the tournament.

Lakeside-Fountain Lake

FOUNTAIN LAKE -- Lakeside junior girls rolled to a 40-16 win over Fountain Lake Thursday night at Bass Gymnasium.

Lakeside took a 9-6 lead in the opening period before holding the junior Lady Cobras to two in the second period as it rolled to a 17-8 halftime buffer.

Fountain Lake put up six in the third, but the junior Lady Rams added eight to take a 25-14 lead into the final quarter.

Mady Davenport led the junior Lady Rams with nine points, Sarah Porter added seven and Erika Bittinger and Ashley Gayle had five each.

Fountain Lake (3-2) was paced by Karli Bryant and Jaelyn Rhoades with four points each.

Lakeside (5-2) hosts Malvern Monday in the Lakeside Tournament.

Lake Hamilton-Benton

PEARCY -- Lake Hamilton's junior boys struggled against Benton at Wolf Arena Thursday night, dropping two of three matches.

Benton took a 24-13 lead into the break of the ninth grade game. The junior Wolves added 22 in the second half, but Benton was able to add 11 to secure the 45-35 win.

Wylyn Harris paced Lake Hamilton with 11 points, Chase Jessup adding eight and Carson Harris 5.

The ninth grade squad (2-4, 1-2 in CAJHC play) will travel to Cabot North Monday for another conference matchup.

* Hayden McDougal led the eighth grade team with nine points in the home team's 33-23 loss.

Gavin Robbins and Jessup each added four in the game.

* Zac Pennington and K.J. McDaniel led the seventh grade match with eight points apiece as the seventh grade Wolves took a 34-28 win over Benton.

Kendrick Martin added 7 for the Wolves.

* Olivia Pielemeier led the seventh grade Lady Wolves to a 29-9 win over Benton Thursday.

Pielemeier led with eight, and Ann Marie Tice added three
