Henson scores 1,000th point in Reddies win over Bison

ARKADELPHIA -- Haleigh Henson became the 12th player in Henderson State women's basketball history to record 1,000 career points and went on to lead the Reddies to an 85-61 win over Oklahoma Baptist Saturday at the Duke Wells Center.

Henson, from Greenwood, needed four points entering Saturday's game and scored her 1,000th-point in the opening quarter at the 5:02 mark with a 10-foot jumper in the paint. Henderson is now 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the Great American Conference.

The team recorded its third straight win in five days with the help of 51 percent shooting from the field, while forcing 20 Lady Bison turnovers which resulted in 26 points for the Reddies. The Reddies jumped out to an 18-4 lead in the opening quarter connecting on 8 of 12 shots to begin the contest as Henson scored nine points in a span of 90 seconds.

Henderson entered the second quarter leading 20-12 and built a 40-27 lead by the break behind Torrie Thompson's 10 points in the period, which included a pair of 3-point field goals. Hailey Estes, from Conway, and Henson scored seven points each in the third quarter as the Reddies had a 62-46 advantage entering the final quarter of play.

Oklahoma Baptist (4-4, 1-3) was limited to 27 percent shooting in the final quarter, converting on just 3 of 11 field goals. Henderson pulled away from the Lady Bison shooting 10-for-17 with Thompson scoring 10 points in the quarter.

Four players scored in double-figures for Henderson. Thompson led the way with 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field.

Henson finished the game with 16 points to go along with six assists, while Estes totaled 15 points and five rebounds. Pink Jones, of Fayetteville, added 12 points along with four boards and a pair of assists.

Henderson will continue its home stand on Tuesday as the Reddies welcome Arkansas-Fort Smith to the Duke Wells Center with tip-off set for 6 p.m.
