Village POA works on first master plan

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- The Hot Springs Village Property Owners Association is in the midst of an intensive period of community input with the project team it has engaged to craft the Village's first comprehensive master plan.

A charrette -- an intense period of design and planning activity -- began last Tuesday and is scheduled through Wednesday in Hot Springs Village. Presentations are being made by representatives of two companies, Crafton Tull and DPZ, that were retained to craft the plan.

A POA spokeswoman said designers will be on site in Hot Springs Village through Wednesday, working mainly in the Ponce de Leon Center and offering numerous public presentations and opportunities for input.

According to information the POA has posted online about the plan, it will provide a "framework for long- and short-term planning that is clear yet flexible and will respond to changing needs and conditions. This framework should foster a resilient, adaptable, and competitive community that forges a strong identity at the scales of the overall community as well as of individual neighborhoods and provides for a high level of character, livability, economic health, and environmental quality of the community proper and the area at large."

The HSV board of directors voted in September to hire Crafton Tull and DPZ, citing the companies' success in planning and developing communities throughout the United States and internationally.

The board also appointed an Ad Hoc Comprehensive Master Plan Steering Committee to help guide the effort.

Sessions today will deal with health and education; utilities, infrastructure and transportation; and zoning and aesthetics.

The closing presentation is set from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Woodlands Auditorium in the Village.
