Library to host 'Non-Game Fish of Arkansas' lecture

The Garland County Library will host Belinda Jonak, master naturalist and Garland County Library circulation clerk, for a presentation on "Non-Game Fish of Arkansas" at 2 p.m. today in the library auditorium.

Registration is required to attend the free program.

Jonak's program will include information about species of fish that are often overlooked in Arkansas in favor of sport fish such as bass, trout, crappie, and other game fish. She will share information about species such as darters, buffalo, red horse, mad toms, minnow, and other small fish. Jonak said her goal with the program is to "raise awareness of all things in the water."

Jonak has been a member of the Diamond Lakes Chapter of the Master Naturalists for over four years and has completed several community service projects and taught and attended many educational programs about Arkansas native plants and animals. Her past experience includes time as a teacher of biology and zoology at National Park College, a docent at the Waikiki Aquarium in Honolulu and an employee of the Fort Worth Zoo. Jonak has been employed at the Garland County Library since 1999 and is an avid reader of all things quirky.
