Junior Wolves roll over Cabot North

CABOT -- A rough third quarter was not enough to down Lake Hamilton Monday night as the ninth grade boys rolled to a 34-28 conference victory at Cabot North.

The junior Wolves had a strong start, taking an 11-5 lead before stretching to a 21-10 halftime buffer.

"We had success early against their man defense," said Lake Hamilton assistant coach Darren Cannon. "We were able to get some easy baskets inside with some of our set plays and our pick and roll offense. Destin Rhodes scored six quick points in the first and Wylyn Harris six in the second quarter."

Cabot used the break to coordinate its defense, shutting down the junior Wolves while cutting the deficit by seven for a 21-17 spread going into the final frame.

"They really picked their defensive intensity up, and we struggled to score in the third quarter," Cannon said. "They created some turnovers with their ball pressure and full court press. We handled the pressure a lot better in the fourth and starting attacking the basket more and getting to the free throw line. We were 10-10 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter and that was big for us to seal the win. (Head) coach (Bobby) Tedder and I were really proud of the guys for stepping up and knocking down their free throws."

Wylyn Harris paced the junior Wolves with 10 points, Seth Sassaman adding seven and Destin Rhodes six.

Lake Hamilton (3-4, 2-2 in CAJHC) host conference opponent Conway White Thursday at Wolf Arena.
