Junior high

CABOT -- Lake Hamilton's junior high girls' basketball team remained undefeated Monday with a road victory over Cabot North.

Aspen Thornton opened the scoring on a fast break and Hayleigh Wyrick extended the lead with a deep 2-pointer. Wyrick hit a pair of early 3-pointers as Lake Hamilton built an early 12-0 lead. Head coach Maribeth Richards said the Lady Wolves shot well as a team.

"Tia Mullenix played awesome defense on the top of our zone," Richards said. "She got her hands on a lot of balls that caused turnovers for them and resulted in steals for us.

"When we went to man-to-man, Aspen Thornton's on ball defense was really good. She picked several of Cabot's guards."

Lake Hamilton (8-0) led 16-2 after the first quarter and 30-5 at halftime. The mercy rule went into effect during the third quarter, which ended with a score of 39-9.

"We executed offensively really well down the stretch, but, in the beginning, we relied on our transition game to get us going," Richards said.

Thornton and Wyrick led all scorers with 12 points apiece. Mullenix added seven points, Aryn Hughes scored five and Ginny Higginbotham scored four.

Lake Hamilton's junior high teams will host Conway White tonight at Wolf Arena.
