Red Devils stay hot, soar past Magnet Cove

MOUNTAIN PINE -- Mountain Pine got contributions from everyone and continued its blistering pace with a 67-36 rout of visiting Magnet Cove Friday night.

Lashawn Reed and Josh Walpole paced the Red Devils with 12 points each, while Matt Snow finished with 11 points and Fay Haywood and Tyler Zander each scored 10 points.

Mountain Pine held a commanding 37-20 lead at the half and never took its foot off the gas. The Red Devils outscored Magnet Cove 20-9 in the third quarter and 10-6 in the fourth to set the final margin.

After losing 55-48 to Class 4A Bauxite in the Bill Gibbs Memorial tournament on Nov. 30, Mountain Pine (10-1) has now won six straight games by an average of 31 points per game.

The Red Devils travel to Brinkley Tuesday night before hosting Mount Ida on Wednesday. Mountain Pine will also compete in the Chartwells Spa City Shootout, beginning Dec. 27 against Benton at Bank of the Ozarks Arena.

Magnet Cove (2-6) will participate in the Herb Russell Classic on Dec. 28 at Ouachita High School.

Snapping a four-game losing streak, the Mountain Pine Lady Red Devils got back on track with a 50-33 romp of Magnet Cove.

Senior forward Summer Godwin stuffed the stat sheet with a game-high 21 points, nine rebounds and six steals. Freshman guard Kalariya McDaniel recorded 11 points and two blocked shots for the Lady Red Devils, while senior forward Grace Galarza tallied seven points and four rebounds.

Mountain Pine senior forward Tanay Tash added eight points, four rebounds and four steals in the win, and senior guard Ali Meeks grabbed four rebounds.

The Lady Red Devils improved to 3-6 on the season before hosting Mount Ida Wednesday night. Mountain Pine will face Mount Saint Mary's in the first round of the Chartwells Spa City Shootout on Dec. 27 at Bank of the Ozarks Arena.
