A Benton man who led authorities on a high-speed pursuit in October, colliding with a Garland County sheriff's unit at one point, was sentenced to two years in prison Monday after pleading guilty in Garland County Circuit Court.

Daniel Steven Brown, 34, who has been held without bond since his arrest Oct. 9, pleaded guilty to a felony count of fleeing in a vehicle, with his two-year sentence to run concurrently with the revocation of his parole from previous convictions and a sentence out of Hot Spring County where he was involved in a pursuit a month earlier.

According to reports, Brown was being sought on warrants for multiple felonies stemming from the Sept. 16 pursuit when Hot Springs police developed information on Oct. 9 Brown was seen at McDonald's, 200 E. Grand Ave.

Officers responded to the area around 12:40 p.m. and upon arrival saw Brown getting into a vehicle. When they tried to stop him, he fled from the parking lot, driving in reverse into oncoming traffic. Still in reverse, he accelerated into the intersection of Malvern and Grand where he spun the front of the vehicle around, nearly colliding with a passing motorist.

He continued west on Grand, swerving around motorists and running stop lights. He continued at about 55 mph to Albert Pike where he accelerated to 80 mph, continuing to swerve around motorists and ignore traffic signals. Brown eventually left the city limits, turning right onto Macon Terrace.

He traveled around a residence in the 100 block of Macon, driving through the front yard and rear lawn, before returning to Albert Pike and heading toward the Piney junction. As he approached the intersection where traffic was stopped, he cut through two parking lots and collided with a passing motorist as he pulled onto Mountain Pine Road.

At that point, Brown attempted to flee down Mountain Pine Road, but collided with a sheriff's unit, which disabled his vehicle in the parking lot of EZ Mart, 107 Mountain Pine Road. After spending several minutes ordering Brown out of the vehicle, officers were able to take him into custody without further incident.

According to a probable cause affidavit in the Hot Spring County incident, Brown was allegedly the subject of a high-speed pursuit early the morning of Sept. 16 that ended when his vehicle, which was reportedly stolen, collided head-on with a Rockport Police officer's patrol vehicle. An arrest warrant was issued Sept. 28, according to court records.
