A traffic stop for running a stop sign resulted in a local man being arrested early Tuesday on multiple felony charges after drugs, a stolen gun and drug paraphernalia were allegedly found in his possession.

Shane Ellis Krum, 35, a previously convicted felon on parole, was taken into custody shortly after 2 a.m. and charged with simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, punishable by up to life in prison, possession of meth with purpose to deliver, punishable by up to 30 years, possession of a firearm by certain persons, punishable by up to 20 years, theft by receiving of a firearm and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, each punishable by up to six years.

Krum, who lists a Ledgerock Road address, was also charged with a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, punishable by up to one year in jail, and cited for driving on a suspended driver's license and disobeying a stop sign.

Krum remained in custody on zero bond and was scheduled for a plea and arraignment Wednesday in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Deputy Richard Garrett was on patrol in the area of Spring Street and Westinghouse Drive when he saw a brown passenger car southbound on Westinghouse and noted the driver failed to stop at the stop sign at its intersection with Spring.

The deputy made a traffic stop after the car turned onto Rookard Lane and the driver, later identified as Krum, got out and walked toward a nearby fence. The deputy repeatedly ordered him to stop, but he continued until he made it to the fence where he lit a cigarette and then finally walked back to the car and sat in the driver's seat.

A computer check revealed Krum's license was suspended and that he was an active parolee with a search waiver on file. The deputy searched the vehicle and allegedly found a loaded 9-mm pistol, which had been reportedly stolen in Garland County, under the driver's seat.

Garrett then walked to the fence to the spot where Krum had stood and found a backpack on the ground. Inside the bag was a box that allegedly contained a large baggie with what later tested positive for meth, a total of 61.8 grams, and a bag of what later tested positive for marijuana, 2.7 grams.

The bag also reportedly contained a set of digital scales and several smaller baggies "commonly used in the distribution of illegal narcotics." A cellphone and $505 in cash were also seized from Krum, the affidavit states.

At the Garland County Detention Center, Krum allegedly became belligerent and began cursing at Garrett during the booking process, so they placed him in a holding cell. It was noted Krum had several prior felony convictions with the most recent in 2016 for distribution of meth or cocaine out of Jacksonville.
