An aggravated robbery charge filed earlier this month against a Hot Springs man has been dismissed and his accuser arrested for allegedly lying to city police that he robbed her at gunpoint.

Angela May Terry, 41, who lists a Wishbone Street address, was taken into custody shortly before 1:30 p.m. Friday and charged with filing a false report with a law enforcement agency, punishable by up to six years in prison.

Terry remained in custody Monday in lieu of $100,000 bond and is set to appear today in Garland County District Court.

Craig Donald Wilkins, who was arrested Feb. 4 and charged with aggravated robbery, a felony punishable by up to life in prison, has since been released and the charge dismissed.

According to the affidavit, shortly after 2 a.m. on Feb. 4, police had responded to a robbery call near Southern Bancorp, 4138 Central Ave., and made contact with Terry, who claimed she had been assaulted with a firearm and robbed by Wilkins while parked in the bank's lot.

Terry said she and a female friend, 39, were driven to the bank by Wilkins, who wanted to withdraw money to get some food. She said Wilkins exited the driver's side of the car and attempted to use his debit card in the ATM. She said he got upset when he was unable to withdraw any money, so he got back in the car and drove away.

Terry then alleged that Wilkins stopped and pulled a handgun from under his seat, aimed it at the female friend, who was sitting in the back seat, and demanded the friend get out of the car. Terry said the friend couldn't get out because the doors were locked so Terry pushed the unlock button on the center console to let her out.

At that point, Terry alleged Wilkins grabbed her by the throat, struck her in the face with the handgun and demanded her wallet, containing $60, which she gave him, and then she got out and he drove away leaving them there.

That same day, HSPD Detective Nathan Rines interviewed Wilkins, who came in voluntarily for questioning, and he stated he, Terry and her friend went to the bank to get $40 for Terry so she could get drugs. He said Terry drove because he had consumed too much alcohol. He confirmed he tried to use his debit card several times at the ATM but couldn't get it to work.

He said Terry attempted to use the card to get the money, but she was also unsuccessful. He said Terry and her friend became irate when he could not get any money so he told them both to get out of his car. He said they refused, so he pulled his gun from under his seat and demanded they get out and they finally did.

On Feb. 13, Rines interviewed Terry and she allegedly admitted she was not robbed during the incident as she had originally claimed. She was "adamant" that she did not drive the car there and did not try to use Wilkins' card to get money as Wilkins had said. Terry again claimed Wilkins had pulled his gun and struck her with it as she was sitting in the front passenger seat.

On Feb. 14, Rines received a copy of the subpoenaed surveillance footage from the bank which corroborated Wilkins' version of the incident. The footage showed Terry driving Wilkins' vehicle to the ATM and Wilkins getting out of the front passenger seat to try to use his card. He then returned to the passenger seat and Terry is seen walking from the driver's side and attempting to use the card several times.

The video shows Terry walking back, getting into the driver's seat and driving away from the ATM. The footage "clearly shows Terry has provided several false statements that resulted in Wilkins being charged with aggravated robbery," the affidavit states, so a warrant for her arrest was issued.
