HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- Noted writer, publisher, speaker, teacher and presidential diarist Janis F. Kearney will present the program, "Writing Our Lives: Rediscovering Lost Memories," to the Village Writers' Club at 1 p.m. Monday in Room 6 of the Coronado Community Center, 150 Ponderosa Lane.

During a one-hour interactive workshop, Kearney will discuss the importance of rediscovering memories, whether long-forgotten or repressed, to create holistic memoirs. While her comments will focus on capturing memories, her tips will apply to almost all writing.

Kearney was the personal diarist for President Bill Clinton, and has written or coauthored eight books. Her first, the critically acclaimed "Cotton Field of Dreams: A Memoir," tells of her experiences as a daughter of Arkansas cotton sharecroppers, her education in Gould Public Schools, and her graduation from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism.

In 2014, Kearney founded the Celebrate! Maya Project. Its mission is to promote the life and legacy of Maya Angelou throughout Arkansas communities and schools. She also founded the Read.Write.Share Writers Project, which includes memoir writing seminars, lectures and workshops around the state.

Kearney is a recipient of the University of Arkansas' Outstanding Alumni Award and also received the prestigious University of Arkansas Journalism Lemke Award. In 2016, she was inducted into the Arkansas Writers Hall of Fame.

The public is welcome to attend, and $3 will be collected from each attendee to offset the cost of room rental.
