PEO Sisterhood holds Founder's Day lunch

Area chapters of the PEO Sisterhood will celebrate Founders' Day at 11:30 a.m. Saturday with a luncheon at the Hot Springs Country Club.

PEO is a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women; educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans and stewardship of Cottey College; and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.

PEO Sisterhood was founded on Jan. 21, 1869, by seven students at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. It has evolved into one of the largest nonsectarian, community-based organizations with nearly 6,000 chapters and almost a quarter of a million members. PEO has chapters in each of the 50 United States, District of Columbia and in six Canadian provinces. The headquarters for the organization is located in Des Moines, Iowa.

AARP driver safety class at Balboa Baptist

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- An AARP Smart Driver course will be sponsored by Balboa Baptist Church, 415 Ponce DeLeon Drive, at noon Jan. 26. Qualified graduates are eligible for an auto insurance discount.

There is a $15 fee for AARP members and $20 fee for nonmembers to cover course materials. Bring your driver's license and, if applicable, AARP membership card. Call 922-0155 to enroll.
