No. 22 Xavier pulls away to 86-75 win over Georgetown

CINCINNATI -- Edmond Sumner overcame a painful left shoulder and led a second-half surge that swept No. 22 Xavier to an 86-75 victory over Georgetown on Sunday, ending the Musketeers' longest losing streak in three years.

Xavier (14-5, 4-3) had dropped three straight -- all against ranked Big East teams. The Musketeers allowed a 12-point lead to slip away in the second half on Sunday before their injured point guard frustrated the Hoyas (10-10, 1-6) again. Sumner had a career-high 28 points in an 81-76 win at Georgetown on Dec. 31.

Sumner wore a support on his injured left shoulder and sat on the bench grimacing late in the first half. He had a jumper, a three-point play and a pair of free throws during a 12-3 run that put Xavier in control 70-61. He finished with 14 points.

Trevon Bluiett led Xavier with 24 points. J.P. Macura added 20.

Rodney Pryor scored 23 for Georgetown, which lost for the sixth time in seven games.

Binghamton 71, Stony Brook 67

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Bobby Ahearn scored 21 points with a career-high three 3-pointers, Timmy Rose added eight points and hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 20 seconds left, and Binghamton beat Stony Brook 71-67 on Sunday to end a five-game skid.

Lucas Woodhouse tied it at 55 with a 3-pointer, hit another 3 for a 58-55 lead, and Stony Brook led 62-57 in the second half after Roland Nyama's two free throws and a layup. Willie Rodriguez's 3-point play tied it at 62 and Rose's 3 put the Bearcats up 65-64 with 2:05 to go.

Bryan Sekunda hit a 3 with 49 seconds left and Stony Brook led 67-65, but Rose hit another 3 with 20 seconds left and Binghamton led 69-67 with 14 seconds to go. Ahearn iced it with two free throws.

Yosef Yacob scored 14 points for the Bearcats (10-11, 1-5 America East), who made 27 of 55 field goals (49.1 percent).

Woodhouse scored 15 points with four 3-pointers for Stony Brook (10-9, 5-1), which saw its six-game win streak end.

Dayton 67, Saint Louis 46

DAYTON, Ohio -- Charles Cook had 15 points, nine rebounds and a career-high six assists, Scoochie Smith scored 19, including five 3-pointers, and Dayton cruised to a 67-46 win over Saint Louis on Sunday.

A jumper and then a 3-pointer by Mike Crawford gave Saint Louis a 10-4 lead about three minutes in, but the Billikens went scoreless over the next 10:13 and scored two points in the next 14:40 as Dayton opened a 15-point lead with 3:25 left in the half. Cook hit two 3s and Xeyrius Williams made another during a 14-4 run that put the Flyers up 56-28, their biggest lead, with 10:58 to go.

Dayton (15-4, 6-1 Atlantic 10) shot just 41 percent from the field, but made 10 3-pointers and hit 17 of 21 from the free-throw line.

Saint Louis (5-24, 1-6) tied its season low with 15 made field goals and hit a season-worst three 3-pointers.

Crawford, who had 11 points, was the only Billikens player to score in double figures.

ETSU 79, Wofford 72

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- T.J. Cromer and Desonta Bradford scored 17 points apiece, A.J. Merriweather added 16, and Eastern Tennessee State beat Wofford 79-72 on Sunday.

David Burrell scored 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting and the Buccaneers (15-5, 5-2 Southern) made 30 of 52 field goals (57.7 percent) and outrebounded the Terriers 31-23.

Burrell's 3-pointer with 4:28 left in the first half put ETSU up for good, 32-29, and the Buccaneers led 41-37 at halftime.

Wofford closed to 43-41 on Cameron Jackson's dunk early in the second half, and to 59-58 on Fletcher Magee's 3 with 8:44 to go, but the Buccaneers pulled ahead on a 9-0 run capped by Bradford's 3 and led 68-60 with five minutes left.

Wofford closed to 75-70 on Magee's jumper with 1:10 left, but Merriweather and Bradford each made a pair of free throws in the final 35 seconds and ETSU held on.

Magee scored 24 points with four 3-pointers and Eric Garcia added 12 with seven assists for the Terriers (8-12, 3-4), who saw their two-game win streak end.

George Mason 82, Richmond 77

RICHMOND, Va. --Marquise Moore scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for his 12th double-double this season, Jalen Jenkins added 16 points, and George Mason pulled ahead early to beat Richmond 82-77 on Sunday.

Otis Livingston II scored 11, Jaire Grayer added nine with a career-high 12 boards, and the Patriots (13-6, 3-3 Atlantic 10) outrebounded the Spiders 48-37 and outscored them 46-28 in the paint.

Trailing by 10 at halftime, Richmond gained on a 10-2 run capped by T.J Cline's tip-in and closed to 75-70 while the Patriots went without a field goal for 3:23. Livingston made a pair of free throws, Moore added four in the final 2:45 and the Patriots hung on.

Livingston's 3-pointer put the Patriots up for good 3-2, sparking a 13-3 run, and George Mason scored its most points (49) in a first half this season.

Cline scored 21 points and had 11 boards and ShawnDre' Jones added 19 with six assists for Richmond (11-8, 5-2), which has lost two straight.

Memphis 70, UCF 65

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- K.J. Lawson hit 4 of 4 free throws in the final 1:16, Markel Crawford converted a late 3-point play and Memphis held on for a 70-65 win over UCF on Sunday.

Lawson finished with 16 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals. Dedric Lawson scored 14 points while Crawford and Jimario Rivers added 12 apiece. Jeremiah Martin had nine points and five assists for Memphis (15-5, 5-2 American Athletic Conference).

UCF's A.J. Davis made two free throws to make it 59-all before a 7-2 spurt, capped by Crawford's layup and free throw, put the Tigers up six with 2:32 left and K.J. Lawson's four foul shots sealed it.

Taylor had 16 points and Tacko Fall added 15 with 13 rebounds and two blocked shots for the Tigers (14-5, 5-2).

UCF took a 10-0 lead about two minutes in and led most of the first half before the Tigers closed the period with seven straight points to lead 33-30. B.J. Taylor's 3-pointer put the Knights back in front, 49-46, with 8:59 left, but Crawford scored six points and Rivers added four as Memphis scored ten straight and never again trailed.

Monmouth 91, Fairfield 49

WEST LONG BEACH, N.J. -- Justin Robinson scored 12 of his 20 points in the first half and Monmouth routed Fairfield 91-49 on Sunday for its sixth straight win.

Robinson was 6 of 8 from the field and had four 3-pointers. Louie Pillari added a career-best 13 points, Collin Stewart had 11 of his 13 points in the first half, and Micah Seaborn finished with 10 points for the Hawks (16-5, 8-2 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). Mustapha Traore had a team-high nine rebounds and chipped in six points.

Thomas Nolan and Tyler Nelson scored 11 points apiece to lead Fairfield (8-10, 3-6), which shot 29 percent from the floor and has lost five straight.

Monmouth had a double-digit lead with seven minutes left in the first half and built a 50-24 halftime lead.

The Hawks outrebounded Fairfield 57-32, and the 42-point win was the largest margin of victory for conference-leader Monmouth this season.

New Hampshire 81, Hartford 56

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- Jaleen Smith hit 5 of 6 3-pointers and scored 27 points to help New Hampshire beat Hartford 81-56 on Sunday.

Smith was 9 of 11 from the floor and was one-point shy of matching his career-high. He had one steal in the first half to become the third player in program history with 1,000 points, 250 assists and 100 steals.

Daniel Dion added three 3-pointers and 17 points for New Hampshire (13-7, 4-2 America East). Tanner Leissner had 15 points, Iba Camara scored 12 and each grabbed eight rebounds.

New Hampshire was up 23-16 with eight minutes to go in the first half but the Wildcats closed the half on a 20-4 run for a 23-point lead. Smith hit three 3-pointers and scored 10 points during the spurt and Daniel Dion added two 3s and eight points.

Jalen Ross scored 17 points for Hartford (6-15, 1-5) and Hassan Attia added 12 points. The Hawks were just 5 of 21 from 3-point range, including 1 of 7 for Ross.

N. Kentucky 101, Detroit 87

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. -- Mason Faulkner scored a career-high 29 points, Drew McDonald scored 21 and Northern Kentucky went 35 of 42 from the foul line to beat Detroit 101-87 on Sunday to snap a three-game skid.

Lavone Holland II scored 17 points with seven assists, Carson Williams added 13 points with 10 rebounds, and the Norse (13-8, 4-4 Horizon) won the rebound battled 38-26 and shot 58.8 percent from the floor.

The last time the Norse scored 100 or more was 107-53 against UC Clermont on Dec. 14, 2014.

Trailing 41-36 at halftime, Detroit closed to 44-42 on Cole Long's layup, but Faulkner scored nine points amid an 11-0 run and Northern Kentucky led 55-42. Faulkner hit his second 3 for an 84-68 lead and Holland put the Norse over the century mark with a layup with 28 seconds left.

Chris Jenkins scored 20 points for his ninth career 20-point game and Josh McFolley added 16 for the Titans (4-16, 2-6)

Northwestern 74, Ohio State 72

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Scottie Lindsey scored 21 points, Bryant McIntosh had 17 and Northwestern won at Ohio State for the first time since 1977 with a 74-72 comeback victory on Sunday.

The Buckeyes cut the lead to two points on a Micah Potter 3-pointer with 24 seconds left. But C.J. Jackson had to foul Vic Law, who sank both foul shots to make it 72-68. Marc Loving got it back to two with a layup with 10 seconds on the clock, but a pair of foul shots by Lindsey put Northwestern ahead by four. Potter got the final points for Ohio State with a dunk with one second left.

Law added 10 points and Sanjay Lumpkin grabbed 11 rebounds as Northwestern (16-4, 5-2 Big Ten) won for the third straight time, despite shooting just 37.5 percent.

Jae'Sean Tate led Ohio State (12-8, 2-5) with 14 points, JaQuan Lyle added 13 and Trevor Thompson had 11 points and 15 rebounds.

Seton Hall 86, St. John's 73

NEWARK, N.J. -- Angel Delgado scored 21 points and grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds for his 14th double-double of the season and Seton Hall beat St. John's 86-73 on Sunday.

He became the first Pirate to score 20-plus and grab at least 20 boards in a Big East Conference game. His rebounds tied Herb Pope's program record, set Jan. 8, 2011, for a Big East game.

Delgado got his 20th rebound with 51 seconds left after a missed free throw and he pumped his fist before being subbed out.

Myles Powell added 19 points for Seton Hall (13-6, 3-4). Desi Rodriguez had 11 points and eight rebounds, and Khadeen Carrington scored 10 with eight assists.

It was a tight game early with six lead changes in the first 5:30, but Delgado sparked Seton Hall to a 20-point halftime lead. Delgado had 14 rebounds at the break as Seton Hall outrebounded St. John's 30-15.

Marcus LoVett led St. John's (9-12, 3-5) with 22 points and Bashir Ahmed had 19 points and seven rebounds.

Siena 81, Manhattan 68

RIVERDALE, N.Y. -- Brett Bisping scored 24 points and Siena pulled away early in the second half and beat Manhattan 81-68 on Sunday.

Bisping was 8 of 14 from the floor and matched a game-high with nine rebounds. Marquis Wright added 18 points for Siena (9-12, 6-4 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), which bounced back from a 77-65 loss at Saint Peter's that snapped a four-game win streak. Lavon Long had 13 points and Khalil Richard chipped in 12.

Zane Waterman scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Manhattan (7-14, 2-8). Calvin Crawford had 12 points and Samson Usilo added 11.

The Saints stretched their six-point halftime lead to 65-45 midway through the second half. Wright scored seven points and Bisping added six during the stretch, and Siena led by double-digits the rest of the way.

UConn 72, East Carolina 65

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Jalen Adams scored 19 points to lead a short-handed UConn squad over East Carolina 72-65 Sunday in American Athletic Conference play.

Four of the six scholarship Huskies (9-11, 3-4) who played scored in double figures to help snap a two-game losing streak. Rodney Purvis had 16 points, while Kentan Facey and Amida Brimah each scored 13. Facey also finished with 10 rebounds for his third double-double in the last four games.

The Pirates (9-11, 1-6) dropped their sixth-straight contest and have not won since the new year. Kentrell Barkley scored 18 points, Elijah Hughes had 14 and Caleb White 13.

UConn held a 38-28 lead at the half and never let it dip below seven points after that. The Huskies shot 54 percent from the field (27-for-50) and used a 21-0 run to grab their largest lead of the first half, 34-14, with six minutes to play.

Valparaiso 96, Illinois, Chicago 65

VALPARAISO, Ind. -- Alec Peters scored 30 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and became Valparaiso's all-time leading scorer in a 96-65 victory over Illinois-Chicago on Sunday.

Peters entered needing just seven points to break Bryce Drew's 19-year-old program record. Last time out, Peters grabbed a career-best 16 rebounds to break Valpo's career rebounding record.

After a timeout, he was given the game ball and was greeted by Valparaiso president Mark Heckler, director of athletics Mark LaBarbera and coach Matt Lottich.

Peters needed 125 games to break the record, which was set in 121 games, but he has played 300 fewer minutes than Drew.

Shane Hammink added 24 points with five assists for Valparaiso (16-4, 6-1 Horizon League). Jaume Sorolla scored 12 points and Max Joseph 10.

The Crusaders went on a 22-2 run over six-plus minutes to take a 44-18 lead and it was 50-26 at halftime.
