Cooley held to 10 as Mizzou rolls over UA women

FAYETTEVILLE -- Sophie Cunningham averages 17.6 points for the Missouri Tigers women but didn't score a one during Monday night's first half against Arkansas.

Mizzou didn't need it Monday or any of the 36 points that Cunningham scored last Thursday beating Texas A&M or the five she scored Monday

Paced by teammates Sierra Michaelis and off the bench Amber Smith scoring 11 and nine each, the Tigers roared to a 33-20 halftime lead en route to thumping the Razorbacks 60-46 in Monday night's SEC Network televised SEC game at Walton Arena.

For the game that Mizzou led as much as 20, Michaelis finished with 23 points and nine rebounds while Bria Porter scored 10.

Alecia Cooley, scoring all 10 of her points in the first half, led Arkansas.

Senior Jessica Jackson, Arkansas' leading scorer for the season averaging 15.6 points, hit but 1 of 7 for two against Mizzou.

Coach Jimmy Dykes' Razorbacks fall to 13-7 overall and 2-5 in the SEC going into next Sunday afternoon's SEC game at LSU.

Coach Robin Pingeton's Tigers improve to 14-7, 4-3 in the SEC and next play Thursday night, hosting SEC rival Auburn in Columbia, Mo.

The 11-point lead that Missouri held scoring 13 of the game's first 15 points by 4:30 of the first quarter the Tigers increased to a 33-20 advantage at intermission.

Starting with Lindsey Cunningham's trey, Mizzou scored the game's first eight points before Cooley tallied for Arkansas at 7:14 of the 10-minute first quarter.

Mizzou's leads during the first half twice peaked at 17 but Cooley on a field goal and two free throws scored the half's final four points to cut it to 33-20 at half.

Arkansas shot but 6 of 27 from the first half field and was outrebounded 26-12 the first half even as the Razorbacks shot 7 for 9 from the free throw line to Mizzou's 1 of 1.

Michaelis, 11, and Smith, 9, alone outscored Arkansas, 20-13 for the first half though Cooley did outscore 10-9 the first 20 minutes.

Mizzou twice peaked its second half lead at 20.
