VFW Honor Guard needs volunteers

Thaddeus H. Caraway Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2278 is in need of volunteers for its Honor Guard.

Formed in 1990, thousands of full military honors have been performed for deceased veterans and Posting of The Colors at special events.

For contributing as little as two to three hours per occasion, one can belong, at no expense, to a team built on comradeship and mutual experiences.

Spanish classes offered at Literacy Council of GC

The Literacy Council of Garland County will offer Beginning Spanish classes, levels 1 and 2, from 6:45-8:15 p.m. Tuesdays for six weeks at its office, 119 Hobson Ave. The instructors are educators who are native Spanish speakers.

Students of all ages can register by calling 624-7323 or 361-772-4495. Space is limited. The cost is $89.

People who travel find speaking Spanish assists them in navigating in other countries. Studies have shown speaking more than one language improves memory, creative thinking, decision making and may even help protect from the onset of dementia. Learning a second language is beneficial, not only for the student, but for their employers. Hiring people who speak Spanish can be a boost to the businesses who employ them.
