Comedian Yakov Smirnoff is returning to the Five Star Dinner Theatre for a limited engagement June 30 to July 3.

Each show will begin at 6 p.m., with an optional dinner at 5 p.m.

The theater's executive producer Tom Wilkins said having Smirnoff back for four shows is a "blessing for everyone."

"Yakov came here five years ago and sold out six straight shows and could have sold out many more with the demand for tickets running high," Wilkins said.

Smirnoff is known as the Russian comedian who pumps his arms, exclaims "what a country," and laughs like a donkey. But, aside from his comedic antics, he can also be serious and emotional, a news release said. He's an accomplished artist whose work hung at ground zero and received national attention. He's also an author, a father, a patriot, holds degrees in art and psychology, and is an American success story.

When Yakov immigrated to the United States, he landed his first job in a bar and changed his last name from Pokhis to Smirnoff, he said, because "it would be easy for Americans to remember."

A mainstay in the entertainment scene since the late 1970s, Smirnoff was a regular guest on the award-winning NBC sitcom, "Night Court." He has been a popular guest on numerous national television shows including "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson." Smirnoff co-starred with Robin Williams in "Moscow on the Hudson," Tom Hanks in "Money Pit," Meryl Steep and Jack Nicholson in "Heartburn" and Richard Pryor in "Brewster's Millions." Having appeared for numerous presidents, Smirnoff was called a national treasure by Ronald Reagan, the release said.

Tickets are now on sale. Show-only tickets are $30 and dinner show tickets are $45. Call 318-1600 or visit http://www.thefivestartheatre.com to reserve a table.
