'World Class' cringeworthy

Dear editor:

As a graduate of Hot Springs High School, I literally cringe every time I see my old high school referred to as "World Class." I feel that the administration of the Hot Springs School District should give definitive documentation as to the reasoning behind applying this highly elitist title. If they cannot do so, then they should by all means cease using it.

I think it would be very commendable if they were using this term internally -- as a long-term goal to strive toward -- but to use it publicly subjects the students to all sorts of derisive remarks by students from other schools.

If the school district can prove the title "World Class" is well deserved, then I will be most happy to apologize, because that would have been a world class achievement in a very short period of time.
