UA's softball season

NORMAN, Okla. -- Arkansas' seventh-inning rally came up short in a 5-3 loss to sixth-ranked Oklahoma in the first elimination game of the NCAA Norman Regional softball tournament Saturday.

Scoreless since the first inning, Arkansas put runners on second and third with one out in the seventh before Paige Lowary struck out the next two batters.

Arkansas ended the season 31-24 and making the program's seventh NCAA-tournament appearance, its first under head coach Courtney Deifel.

Playing on its home field, Oklahoma (51-9) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning off freshman starter Autumn Storms. Arkansas answered with three runs in the bottom half, the most allowed by Oklahoma in a first inning this season.

Autumn Russell singled and Loren Krzysko doubled ahead of Tori Cooper's two-run single, pushing her season RBI total to 40. With the bases loaded after an intentional walk to Nicole Schroeder, the Razorbacks took a 3-2 lead on a sacrifice fly by Madison Yannetti.

Oklahoma tied the game with a run in the second, scoring the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the fourth and adding a run in the fifth. The Sooners turned a double play in the third and worked around a bases-loaded jam with two out in the fifth.

Grace Moll (8-4) took the loss in relief. Three Oklahoma relievers scattered five hits after the Sooner starter was pulled after facing five batters.
