Local Show Music Menagerie announces month's lineup

This month's Local Show Music Menagerie will feature The Fun City Chorus, Common Ground Band, poetry by Kai Coggin, comedian Ronel Williams and music by Chana and Randy Caylor.

"We are two years old this month and it has been an incredible ride so far. The most exciting was our move to the historic Vapors nightclub, now called Life Center Arts. April was our first show there and we are over the moon excited about all the possibilities this venue will offer us. We have an awesome show lined up for you this month," Chana Caylor said in a news release.

The Fun City Chorus is a men's singing group established in 1978. Affiliated with the Barbershop Harmony Society, they are very active in community events, funding of scholarships for young musicians and producing major shows each year. Under the direction of Steve Spakes, the choir has just finished a very successful show in Hot Springs Village entitled "The Boys of Baseball." Their new show, "The Cigar Box Men," is scheduled for Aug. 26 at the Hot Springs Convention Center.

A former Teacher of the Year turned poet and author living on the side of a small mountain in Hot Springs, Coggin holds a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing from Texas A&M and writes poems on love, spiritual striving, body image, injustice, metaphysics and beauty, the release said. Her work has been published or is forthcoming in many literary journals. Coggin is the author of two full-length poetry collections, "Periscope Heart" and "Wingspan," and she just released her spoken work album "Silhouette" in March.

Ronel started performing stand-up comedy at a talent show produced by his place of employment two years ago. He has a radio show, which airs on KWCP 98-9 LPFM, that discusses relationships, fashion, news, and fun. He also produces comedy shows in and around Little Rock in addition to being a spoken word poet, musician, and father of three daughters.

The Common Ground Band is a five-member acoustic ensemble that has been entertaining audiences in central Arkansas since 2012. The band describes their music as an eclectic blend of folk, Celtic, bluegrass, early rock, and country, performed in their own unique styles on banjo, mandolin, guitar, keyboard, and washboard. The band was selected by the Arkansas Arts Council to appear on the Arts on Tour roster for the 2016-17 season.

The show is scheduled for 7-9 p.m. Friday at Life Center Arts, 315 Park Ave. Tickets are $10 per person at the door. Snacks and beverages are now available for purchase during the show.
