Berrios, Twins complete sweep of Baltimore 4-3

BALTIMORE -- Jose Berrios took a two-hitter into the seventh inning, Kennys Vargas drove in two runs and the Minnesota Twins beat the Orioles 4-3 on Wednesday to complete their first three-game sweep in Baltimore since 1996.

Eduardo Escobar had two hits and an RBI for the first-place Twins, who have won six of seven and are a major league best 14-5 on the road.

Berrios (3-0) allowed three runs and four hits over 6 1/3 innings, striking out seven. He was pulled in the seventh after solo homers by Chris Davis and Jonathan Schoop got Baltimore to 4-3.

Taylor Rogers struck out Davis with two on and two outs in the eighth, and Brandon Kintzler got three outs his 12th save in 13 tries.

It was Minnesota's fourth sweep of the season -- matching their total of all last season.

Orioles starter Chris Tillman (1-1) gave up four runs and nine hits in five innings.

Blue Jays 8, Brewers 4

MILWAUKEE -- Ryan Goins hit his first career grand slam, one of four homers for the Toronto Blue Jays in a win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Blue Jays swept the two-game interleague series and wrapped up a seven-game road trip with three straight victories.

Kevin Pillar, Devon Travis and Jose Bautista hit solo shots for the Blue Jays, who have homered in four straight games. Bautista's towering shot caromed off the Miller Lite sign high above the center-field wall 400 feet from the plate.

Marcus Stroman (5-2) allowed four hits and a season-high four walks but won his fourth straight game, pitching into the sixth before Domingo Santana's two-out, three-run homer cut Toronto's lead to four.

The bullpen ended the afternoon by retiring 10 of the Brewers' final 11 hitters. Goins' grand slam in the sixth provided more than enough cushion.

Athletics 4, Marlins 1

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Sonny Gray struck out a season-high 11 over seven innings in his best start in two years and Khris Davis homered as Oakland Athletics topped the Miami Marlins.

Jed Lowrie matched his career high with four hits including a pair of doubles, and Matt Joyce reached base three times and scored to help the A's earn a split of the two-game interleague series.

Gray (2-1) was dominant while earning his second straight win. He retired the first nine batters, struck out the side twice and pitched out of a pair of jams to strand runners at third. Gray walked one and allowed three hits.

Ryan Madson pitched the eighth and Santiago Casilla got the last three outs for his seventh save, getting Tyler Moore to foul out with two runners on base to end the game.

Edinson Volquez (0-7) allowed three runs over six innings and tied the Marlins franchise record for most consecutive losses to open a season.

Diamondbacks 8, White Sox 6

PHOENIX -- Jake Lamb homered off a left-hander for only the second time this season, five Diamondbacks drove in at least one run and Arizona completed a three-game sweep of the White Sox.

The Diamondbacks, winners of eight of their last nine games, scored six runs in the fifth inning, chasing starter Jose Quintana and building a six-run lead, but they had to hold off a White Sox rally.

Quintana (2-6), who retired the first 10 batters he faced, went just 4 1/3 innings, allowing eight runs and eight hits, both season highs.

Jose Abreu and Leury Garcia homered for the White Sox, who were swept for the second time on a 3-7 road trip. The Los Angeles Angels did it to start the trip.

Andrew Chafin (1-0) threw a scoreless fifth inning to get the victory in relief of Randall Delgado.
