Two CHI St. Vincent hospitals awarded for quality stroke care

LITTLE ROCK -- Two CHI St. Vincent hospitals in central Arkansas have been recognized for excellence in stroke care by the state Department of Health.

CHI St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock and CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs both recently received awards for providing defect-free stroke care. The recognition was based on performance measures documented in the Arkansas Stroke Registry during fiscal year 2016.

In addition to the award from the Department of Health, CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs was presented with a "gold plus" quality achievement award from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association for attaining specific benchmarks related to stroke care for at least 24 consecutive months. CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs has continued to build on its success in ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment, having earned the bronze award in 2015 and the silver award last year.

"As we observe National Stroke Awareness Month in May, this is an opportunity for us to recognize our physicians and coworkers who go above and beyond to live our mission and care for our community," said Chad Aduddell, CEO of CHI St. Vincent, in the press release. "When we see patients who have had a stroke, we know that seconds matter, and there is little room for error. These quality outcomes are a result of skilled health care professionals and a commitment to education and research."

According to the Department of Health, defect-free care is determined from seven AHA/ASA guidelines. The CHI St. Vincent hospitals recognized were among a dozen hospitals statewide to receive awards.

CHI St. Vincent, founded in 1888, is the largest integrated and community-based physician organization in Arkansas -- a system with over 1 million patient visits per year, serving patients from all 75 counties in Arkansas.

CHI St. Vincent Infirmary, an acute-care facility, licensed for 615 beds, is located in Little Rock and is ranked the "best hospital" in Arkansas by U.S. News and World Report and is the first hospital to earn Magnet recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs is an acute-care facility licensed for 282 beds. Other CHI St. Vincent hospitals include CHI St. Vincent North, licensed for 69 beds, in Sherwood; CHI St. Vincent Morrilton, a critical access hospital in Morrilton, licensed for 25 beds; and CHI St. Vincent West, an outpatient campus in west Little Rock. The system includes a network of 300 primary care and specialty physicians, a home health agency, a joint venture inpatient rehabilitation facility, and affiliations with more than 1,000 physicians.
