Hot Springs man reportedly arrested with drugs, firearm

A Hot Springs man was arrested late Sunday after officers allegedly located about 2.5 ounces of marijuana and a firearm in his vehicle.

Roy Daniel Wells, 20, who lists a South Street address, was taken into custody just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday and charged with felony counts of simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, punishable by up to life in prison, unauthorized use of another person's property to facilitate a crime, punishable by up to 20 years, possession of marijuana with purpose to deliver and theft by receiving of a firearm, punishable by up to six years.

Wells remained in custody Monday in lieu of zero bond, and is set to appear Nov. 14 in Garland County Distinct Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Wells was pulled over in a tan Toyota Corolla at the intersection of Central Avenue and Crawford Street after he reportedly pulled through a parking lot to avoid a stop light. The officer reportedly smelled marijuana emitting from the vehicle and asked Wells for his driver's license and proof of insurance, which he did not have.

Wells allegedly admitted he had smoked marijuana an hour prior to the traffic stop and there was "some (marijuana) in (his) backpack." He was asked to exit the vehicle and detained without incident.

Officers reportedly located $315 in Well's pocket as well as approximately 66.6 grams of marijuana, a 9-mm pistol and a fully loaded magazine inside a Louis Vuitton backpack. The firearm was reportedly stolen.

Burch

Kenneth Ray Burch, 43, of 215 Centerview St., was arrested at his residence at around 6 p.m. and charged with third-degree domestic battery, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail. He remained in custody Monday in lieu of zero bond and is set to appear Nov. 14 in district court.

According to the affidavit, Officer John McLean responded to the Centerview address and made contact with Burch's wife. She reportedly stated an argument with her husband turned physical when he "retrieved a rusty tool from the trash can" and hit her on the chin.

McLean reportedly located the alleged weapon in the neighbor's yard and placed Burch in custody without incident.
