1978-79 HSU basketball player to address alumni

Henderson Alumni Lunch Bunch will meet at 11:30 a.m. Friday at West Shores Retirement Community, 2607 Albert Pike. Grady Bean will be the speaker. A player on the 1978-79 Reddie's basketball team, Bean will talk about how they went 28-4 and reached the NAIA national championship game. This '78-'79 team was recently inducted into the HSU Hall of Honor. Call B.J. Smith, 321-2144, by noon Thursday for reservations.

GC Audubon topic: birds of Belize

Garland County Audubon Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3819 Central Ave. The public is welcome. Cindy Franklin will share about her birding trip to Belize.

Franklin has a lifelong interest in gardening and bird watching that began when she was growing up on a dairy farm in Pennsylvania. After she retired from a VA nursing career, she became a Pulaski County Master Gardener. She is a member of the Audubon Society of Central Arkansas and the Arkansas Audubon Society. In 2017, she and her husband, Bill, joined an Audubon Alaska trip to explore the birds of Belize.

Elks host annual USO Dinner and Dance

Elks Lodge 380, 132 Abbott Place, will host its annual USO Dinner and Dance at 5:30 p.m. Friday. All military veterans and their guests, Elks and Emblem Club members are welcome for a free spaghetti dinner in honor of veterans. From 7-10 p.m., FAB 3 will provide entertainment. Donations will be accepted to defray the cost. Military veterans are encouraged to wear their uniform or any part of it.
