A male juvenile was shot multiple times at a residence at 104 Fernwood St. Thursday evening, according to the Garland County Sheriff's Department.
Garland County Under Sheriff Jason Lawrence said a suspect had been identified, but had not been taken into custody by presstime.
Lawrence said deputies responded to the Fernwood address in reference to "apparent gunshot wounds" at 6:39 p.m. Thursday and located the victim when they arrived at the scene 10 minutes later.
Sheriff's deputies and investigators were joined by LifeNet and an Arkansas State Police unit at the scene of the shooting. Lawrence said the department's Criminal Investigation Division, headed by Capt. Gary Ashcraft, was processing the scene of the shooting and interviewing witnesses after 8 p.m.
Lawrence declined to give a description of the suspect or provide further details on the victim. He also declined to comment on the nature of the shooting or its initial cause, saying that "the situation is still very fluid at this point."
"We're still following up on leads at this time," he said.
The Fernwood residence was marked off with crime scene tape all the way to the edge of its front yard following the shooting. CID personnel were still working the scene at around 8:15 p.m.
The victim was initially taken to the shot put area of the Lakeside School District's athletic facilities to be airlifted by LifeNet, but was instead transported by ground ambulance to an area hospital.
Lawrence said the incident was "still under investigation."
