Shooting victim in stable condition

A 15-year-old boy who was reportedly shot multiple times at a Fernwood Street residence Thursday evening was in stable condition Friday, according to the Garland County Sheriff's Department.

Garland County sheriff's Sgt. John Schroeder said the victim, who was transported to CHI St. Vincent's Hot Springs after he was shot, remained in stable condition after the shooting, which occurred shortly after 6:30 p.m. Thursday at a residence at 104 Fernwood St.

Schroeder said sheriff's investigators are "currently working on a possible suspect." At the crime scene Thursday evening, Under Sheriff Jason Lawrence said a suspect had been identified, but had not been taken into custody.

"The Criminal Investigation Division has been following up on leads into late last night and all during the day," Lawrence told The Sentinel-Record Friday afternoon.

The victim was initially taken to the shot-put area of the Lakeside School District's athletic facilities to be airlifted to a hospital by LifeNet, but was instead transported by ambulance to an area hospital.
