A reportedly homeless woman was arrested Monday morning after Hot Springs police allegedly located drugs and several smoking pipes inside her vehicle.
Katie Lynn Parker, 32, who lists no permanent address, was taken into custody in the 100 block of Omega Street at around 11:30 a.m. and charged with felony counts of possession of meth with purpose to deliver, possession of drug paraphernalia, each punishable by up to 20 years in prison, possession of drug paraphernalia, punishable by up to six years, and a misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana with purpose to deliver.
Parker, who also had a warrant for contempt of court, remained in custody Tuesday in lieu of $16,000 bond, and is set to appear today in Garland County District Court.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Officer Billy Perkins responded to the 100 block of Omega in reference to two people sitting in a car, smoking something out of a glass pipe. Upon his arrival he made contact with the driver, later identified as Parker, and another female passenger who were sitting in a parked silver Saturn.
While he was standing at the driver's side door, Parker was reportedly making a call to an unknown person, asking them to come get the car because she had warrants. Her warrant was confirmed, and she was taken into custody. The other occupant of the vehicle was reportedly released from the scene.
During a search Perkins allegedly located a digital scale, small metal pipe and a broken syringe inside Parker's coat pockets. Two small baggies containing about 2.7 grams of suspected meth and another baggie containing around 4 grams of suspected marijuana were reportedly located inside the vehicle.
Inside the center console, he allegedly found a glass light bulb pipe and a metal container with various items inside including two pipes and a broken light bulb coated with meth residue. A second set of scales was reportedly found in the front seat.
While transporting Parker to the detention center, she spontaneously stated the scales belonged to her.
• A Hot Springs woman was arrested early Sunday following an altercation where she allegedly punched her grandmother in the eye.
Peyton Renee Wells, 20, of 160 Cooper St., was taken into custody at her home at around 3 a.m. and charged with felony second-degree battery, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
She remained in custody as of Tuesday in lieu of a zero bond, and appeared via video Monday morning in district court where she pleaded not guilty to the charge. A felony review hearing is set for Dec. 18 to determine if the charge will be bound over to Garland County Circuit Court.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the complainant stated her granddaughter, identified as Wells, had struck her in the face during an argument. She said she came home from a local bar around 2:15 a.m. and went back to Wells' bedroom to speak with her.
Wells' grandmother reportedly asked for the keys to her car, Wells refused and an argument over money ensued. During the argument, Wells allegedly punched her grandmother in the right eye, causing a cut above the eye. A witness reportedly corroborated the grandmother's version of events and Wells was arrested.
