Lady Rams roll to big win over Ashdown

Lakeside girls moved to 3-0 after rolling to a 60-33 win over Ashdown in the first day of the Lakeside Classic basketball tournament Saturday at Lakeside Athletic Complex.

Scoring 25 points in the third quarter, the Lady Rams cruised in the final eight minutes as the Lady Panthers outscored the host team 8-4 to set the final.

Lakeside took a 15-9 lead in the first quarter, but the team's defense stepped up to hold Ashdown to six for a 31-15 lead at the break.

The Lady Rams offense dominated the third quarter while allowing 10 for Ashdown to take a 56-25 lead into the final period.

Belle Nielson paced the Lady Rams with 12 points and eight rebounds, Ashton Patrick adding 10 points, Thea Rice had eight points with eight boards and Abby Mahoney eight points with seven rebounds.

Lark Wilkerson led the Lady Panthers with 12.

Saturday's win came on the heels of another dominant win as the Lady Rams rolled to a 61-29 win at White Hall Friday.

White Hall was within 8-6 after eight minutes, but Lakeside added 19 while allowing nine to take a 10-point lead into the half.

Lakeside added 24 in the third while allowing six for the Lady Panthers for a 51-23 lead going into the final eight minutes.

Patrick led the Lady Rams with 13 points, including three treys. Mahoney added 12 points with five rebounds, and Neilson had eight points with eight rebounds.

ACORN -- Ryan Brown paced Cutter Morning Star with 35 points as the Eagles edged Acorn here Friday night.

With the Eagles leading by two after three quarters, the Tigers came back to outscore Cutter Morning Star 21-20, leaving the Eagles with the win and the 2-0 start to the season.

Acorn took a 21-18 lead into the second quarter, but the Eagles were not to be denied, outscoring the home team 21-19 to pull within 40-39 at the half.

The Eagles dominated the third, scoring another 21 while allowing 18 for the 60-58 lead going into the final eight minutes.

Chase Hendrix and Mason Treat each added 14 for the Eagles.

Jeremiah Swint paced the Tigers with 33, and Cross Hughes added 18.

Cutter Morning Star will host Haskell Harmony Grove today with junior girls, junior boys, senior girls and senior boys games.

* Cutter Morning Star's junior boys moved to 3-1 last week with wins over Fountain Lake and Acorn.

The junior Eagles topped Fountain Lake 41-38 Thursday. Mitchel Herron and KeShawn Blevins paced the junior Eagles with 14 points each.

The junior boys rolled to a 46-41 win over Acorn Friday night. Blevins led the junior Eagles with 16 points, Clay Slick adding 13.
