LOS ANGELES -- Della Reese, the actress and gospel-influenced singer who in middle age found her greatest fame as Tess, the wise angel in the long-running television drama "Touched by an Angel," has died at age 86.

A family representative released a statement Monday that Reese died peacefully Sunday evening in California. No cause of death or additional details were provided.

Before "Touched by an Angel" debuted in 1994, Reese was mainly known as a singer, although she had costarred on "Chico and the Man," "Charlie and Company" and "The Royal Family" and hosted her own talk show, "Della."

She appeared on numerous shows such as "Night Court," "L.A. Law," and "Designing Women," but wrote in her 1997 autobiography that she had difficulty being typecast until she landed her "Touched by an Angel" role.

Charles Manson, whose cult slayings horrified world, dies

LOS ANGELES -- Cult leader Charles Manson, whose followers killed actress Sharon Tate and six others in 1969, has died. He was 83.

A spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections says Manson died of natural causes Sunday night.

The gory slayings horrified the world and revealed a violent underbelly of a counterculture that preached peace and love.

The killings occurred on successive August nights and terrorized the city of Los Angeles.

Tate, who was nearly nine months pregnant, was found stabbed repeatedly in her Hollywood mansion, along with several of her friends. Other victims included coffee heiress Abigail Folger and celebrity hair stylist Jay Sebring.

The next night a wealthy couple was killed in a similar fashion.

Investigators learned Manson sent a group of disaffected young followers to commit murder as part of a twisted, quasi-religious belief that it would launch a race war.

Camera operator dies in Ghana on set of Netflix drama

LONDON -- A British camera operator has died on the set of the BBC/Netflix miniseries "The Forgiving Earth."

Agent Sarah Prince said Monday that Mark Milsome died in Ghana over the weekend while filming a night-time stunt sequence for the thriller. She said an investigation is underway.

Prince said Milsome was "an incredibly humble and talented man. ... We are all devastated by his loss."

Milsome, 54, worked on TV series including "Sherlock" and "Game of Thrones" and films including "Saving Private Ryan" and "Quantum of Solace."
