Money down the drain

Dear editor:

I was so pleased to see that someone is holding the feet of the members of the Hot Springs Board of Directors to the fire.

You provided a service to our community when your newspaper told us that a group of people will oppose the planned city unnecessary water and sewer rate increases. They have been spending taxpayers' and ratepayers' money with total disregard for way too long.

I will never forget the way City Manager David Frasher was so sneaky to get us to pay for new $55,000 office improvements -- without the approval of the city board -- as an example of how they don't care about us -- the people who are footing the bill.

The Sentinel-Record said that this rate increase may not even be needed since the city has all the water it needs. All the city needs to do is finish up the projects that they already have the money for. And on top of that, the state Health Department said that 27.7 percent of the water the city produces is wasted on leaks. Just fix the leaks!

I'll bet you we can fix up every city employee's office for the amount of money lost down the proverbial drain.

I must tell you, Bob Driggers, of the Garland Good Government Group, needs to knock on my door when they start collecting signatures on a petition. I'll sign it and I'll get all my neighbors and friends on board too.

We've had enough of this wasteful spending and now is the time to stop it.
