Pedestrian struck on Ouachita Avenue

A Hot Springs man was reportedly struck by a vehicle Monday evening while attempting to cross Ouachita Avenue at its intersection with Orange Street, according to Hot Springs police.

At around 5:35 p.m. Monday, Steven Stalling, 52, was crossing the street in a crosswalk when he was struck by a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Jon David Showers, 39, of Hot Springs, who was eastbound on Ouachita, Cpl. Kirk Zaner said Tuesday.

The front bumper of the vehicle hit Stalling who was thrown up on the windshield and landed in the middle of the intersection. Stalling was transported by LifeNet to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs for treatment. Showers was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian, Zaner said.

Monday's incident was the fourth pedestrian involved accident in Garland County in four days.

City, National Park Service announce holiday closings

All city offices, except public safety and the airport, will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.

No sanitation services will run on Thursday; commercial and residential routes will resume Friday. Residential and Earth Angel recycling collection will run one day behind schedule, beginning Friday. There will be no CAPS service. The city's compost facility will be closed Thursday and Friday, but will be open Saturday.

Hot Springs Intracity Transit will not operate on Thursday, but bus and paratransit service will take place as normally scheduled on Friday.

The Hot Springs National Park Visitor Center, located at the Fordyce Bathhouse. will close today at 2 p.m. for the holiday and reopen at 9 a.m. Friday.
