UA names committe for AD search

FAYETTEVILLE -- Arkansas Women's Track Coach Lance Harter, former Arkansas quarterback and businessman Bill Montgomery and former Lady Razorback NCAA Women's Golf champion and longtime LPGA golfer Stacy Lewis are part of the search committee that University of Arkansas Chancellor Joseph Steinmetz has formed as the committee searching for a permanent Razorbacks athletic director.

Senior Associate Athletic Director Julie Cromer Peoples has served as interim athletic director since Jeff Long, Arkansas' athletic director since 2008, was fired last week.

From the UA faculty, Steinmetz announced that Gerald Jordan, a UA graduate, journalism professor, former Kansas City Star sports writer and Philadelphia Inquirer editor and the Razorbacks' faculty representative, and Peter MacKeith, the Dean of the UA's Fay Jones School of Architecture and a former collegiate athlete on the University of Virginia men's soccer team are on the committee along with Ben Hyneman of Jonesboro, the Chairman of the UA's Board of Trustees, and Little Rock businessman Rick Massey, a UA Law School grad serving on the Razorback Foundation Board.

"I sought to assemble a committee representative of the university, spanning past and present in our academics and athletics history, with knowledge and perspective about Arkansas," Steinmetz said in a press release Wednesday. "And, notably an appreciation of the source of pride the Razorbacks are for the state of Arkansas. I have great faith in the approach that each of these advisors will bring to the process and I'd like to thank these folks for their time in this endeavor."

Steinmetz said he formed the committee in consultation with Julie Cromer Peoples, and expressed desire to name an athletic director as quickly as possible.

The press release informed that "Members of the public wishing to contact members of the committee are encouraged to send email to [email protected]."
